Project Schedule

Construction will take place in stages over multiple years. During this time, traffic patterns will change, and drivers may experience delays. The schedule below provides a general overview of planned work. All timelines are approximate and subject to change due to weather, site conditions, and construction progress. Updates will be provided in advance where possible.

Year 1 - 2026

• Reconstruction of the Highway 401 Eastbound median separator and installation of temporary drainage systems  between Warden Avenue to Midland Avenue and at Markham Road

• Rehabilitation of Highway 401 Eastbound Collector lanes and ramps located east of Brimley Road

• Rehabilitation of the Highway 401 Eastbound Express-to-Collector transfer located east of McCowan Road

• Rehabilitation of the Progress Avenue Underpass Bridge

Year 2 - 2027

• Construction on the south portion of the Birchmount Road, CPKC Railway, Kennedy Road, CNR/Metrolinx, Midland Avenue, and Markham Road bridges

• Reconstruction of Highway 401 Eastbound Collector lanes between Birchmount Road and Kennedy Road

• Construction of the realigned Highway 401 Eastbound offramp to Kennedy Road

• Rehabilitation of Highway 401 Eastbound Collector lanes and interchange ramps between Warden Avenue and Midland Avenue, and at Markham Road.

• Rehabilitation of the West Highland Creek culvert.

Year 3 - 2028

• Construction on the north portions of the Birchmount Road, CPKC Railway, Kennedy Road, CNR/Metrolinx, Midland Avenue, and Markham Road bridges

• Rehabilitation of Highway 401 Eastbound Express lanes between Warden Avenue and Brimley Road, and at Markham Road.

Year 4 - 2029

• Construction on the middle portions of the Birchmount Road, CPKC Railway, Kennedy Road, CNR/Metrolinx, Midland Avenue, and Markham Road bridges

• Construction of a new Highway 401 Eastbound median separator between Birchmount Road and Midland Avenue, and at Markham Road

• Construction of the new 401 Eastbound Express-to-Collector transfer located east of the Kennedy Road off-ramp

• Rehabilitation of Highway 401 Eastbound Collector lanes and interchange ramps between Midland Avenue and Brimley Road

• Rehabilitation of the McCowan Road Ramp-Consilium Place Underpass Bridge

Year 5 - 2030

• Construction of a new Highway 401 Eastbound median separator between Warden Avenue and Birchmount Road

• Rehabilitation of Highway 401 Eastbound Express lanes between Victoria Park Avenue and Birchmount Road, and between Brimley Road and Neilson Road.

• Removal of the existing Highway 401 Eastbound Express-to-Collector transfer located east of Warden Avenue and reconstruction of the Warden Avenue on-ramp.

• Rehabilitation of the McCowan Road Ramp-Consilium Place Underpass Bridge

• Rehabilitation of Highland Creek and East Highland Creek culverts

• Final surface asphalt paving
