Highway 401 Eastbound from Victoria Park Avenue to Neilson Road

Project Background

Key Components of the Construction Contract include:

• Rehabilitation of seven existing bridges along Highway 401 Eastbound included:

  • Birchmount Road Overpass Bridge

  • Kennedy Road Overpass Bridge

  • Midland Avenue Overpass Bridge

  • Brimley Road Underpass Bridge

  • McCowan Road Ramp-Consilium Place Underpass Bridge

  • Markham Road Overpass Bridge

  • Progress Avenue Underpass Bridge

• Replacement of two existing bridges along Highway 401 Eastbound included:

  • Highway 401 Eastbound bridges over CPKC Railway Corridor

  • Highway 401 Eastbound bridges over CNR / Metrolinx Railway Corridor

• Rehabilitation of three existing structural culverts under Highway 401 included:

  • West Highland Creek Culvert

  • East Highland Creek Culvert

  • Highland Creek Culvert

• Repairs to an existing retaining wall located east of Kennedy Road along Highway 401 Eastbound;

• Replacement of Highway 401 Eastbound median;

• Pavement and concrete base repairs along Highway 401 Eastbound Collector and Express lanes;

• Drainage upgrades, including new storm sewer systems along Highway 401 Eastbound;

• Rehabilitation of the Highway 401 Eastbound interchange ramps at Warden Avenue, Kennedy Road, Brimley Road, McCowan Road, Corporate Drive, Markham Road, and Progress Avenue;

• Construction of an additional Highway 401 Eastbound Collector lane through the Kennedy Road interchange;

• Relocation of the existing Highway 401 Eastbound Express to Collector transfer from its current location east of Warden Avenue to east of the Kennedy Road off-ramp;

• Removal of the channelized right-turn at the Markham Road off-ramp terminal;

• Replacement of Overhead highway signs;

• Installation and upgrades to highway and roadway lighting;

• Replacement of traffic signals and upgrades to highway traffic management systems;
